The social network rolled out a new "Life Event" for Timeline on
Monday, which lets you share when you are going to be a mother or
father. With the new life event option, expectant parents can share
their baby's due date and whether it's a boy or a girl.
"Life Events are easy and expressive ways to mark significant moments
in your life such as getting married, buying a house or traveling to
new places," according to a Facebook blog post. "If you choose to, you can now share that you are expecting a baby with your friends on Facebook."
You can also add details like who the other parent is, a location,
and a story about the pregnancy. Finally, there's an option to add a
photo, so Facebook users may start seeing more pictures of ultrasounds
and pregnant bellies on Facebook.
The happy baby announcements will appear in the Celebrations section
of your homepage, located in the upper-right corner where birthdays
appear.
To share that you are expecting a baby, simply go to your Timeline
and click "life event" from the sharing tool. From there, click on
"Family & Relationships," then select "Expecting a Baby" and add any
details you want to share before clicking Save. Once the bundle of joy
has arrived, you can share that you had a baby from the same sharing
tool.
Meanwhile, those who aren't so keen on babies have a new option, too. A Chrome plugin called "Unbaby Me" will search your Facebook feed for mentions of babies and replace them with photos of cats.
